pdfEdit995 has been successfully installed. pdfEdit995 can be accessed from the Start menu under Software995.
pdfEdit995 offers a wealth of additional functionality for
the pdf995 user, such
as: combining documents into a single PDF; automatic link insertion;
hierarchical bookmark insertion; PDF conversion to HTML or DOC (text only);
integration with Word toolbar with automatic table of contents and link
generation; auto-attach to email; stationery and stamping.
1: Autolaunch
When Autolaunch is checked, pdf995 will automatically display PDF documents in the default
PDF viewer when printing is complete. This requires that a PDF viewer is
installed.
When Auto-Email is checked, pdf995 will automatically attach
a PDF to an email message for sending. This requires that a default MAPI
compliant email client such as Microsoft Outlook is specified.
Adding the following to the Parameters section of pdf995.ini will allow you
to specify a recipient, text and a subject.
Email Subject=hello world
Email Recipient Address=support@pdf995.com
Email Recipient Name=Pdf995 Support
Email text=this is the text
If the Recipient Address and Name
are specified, a CC address may also be specified as follows:
Email CC Address=help@pdf995.com
Email CC Name=Pdf995 Help
The default MAP login will be
used. This can be adjusted by adding
Email Mapi Logon=
Email Mapi Password=
The text "SMTP:" is
inserted before the recipient address by default. In order to prevent this
insertion, add the following to the Parameters section of pdf995.ini
Add SMTP to Email Address=0
Auto-Email can also be configured to send via SMTP directly
without requiring user input and without displaying the email message. The
following parameters are used:
SMTP=1
Email Subject=
Email Recipient Address=
Email Server=
Email Password=
Email From Address=
Email text=
Email User Name=
Email CC=
SMTP additional Parameters=
Email BCC=
In both cases, if the entry Email text entry is omitted, the message text may be specified in
c:\pdf995\res\utilities\email.txt. Run smtpsend.exe for a list of additional
parameters.
2: Combine/Extract
When Combine is checked, pdf995 will combine multiple (2 or more) documents. The
default configures pdf995 to add the document being printed to the most recently printed document.
Combine mode may also specify that pdf995 start combining with the next
document printed. Using combine mode, Pdf995 outputs a new, single PDF document.
Be sure to turn off Combine mode when finished.
Combine mode can be used to create PDF documents from multiple applications,
such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel and even other PDF documents (you can re-print
all or part of PDF documents with pdf995 in order to combine them with others).
Deleting ..\pdf995\temp.ps will refresh the batch queue. You
can print a section of a PDF file from the free Acrobat to pdf995. When used
with Combine mode, you can add, remove and reorder PDF pages.
Note: When using combine mode with documents containing
multiple page sizes, it may be necessary to adjust Pdf995 Properties. On Windows
2000 and later click the "Advanced..." button and select Postscript
Options. Change Postscript Output Option to "Optimize for Portability."
This will result in larger PDF file sizes.
The Combine Existing PDFs and the Extract PDF Pages tools
require that Signature995 and the Standard Encryption Module v1.5 or later are
installed. Both are free and may be downloaded from www.signature995.com.
Extract PDF Pages may be used to extract multiple page ranges
and reorder PDF pages.
The Combine Existing PDFs option enables multiple PDFs to be
automatically combined into a single PDF. The Extract PDF Pages option allows a
page range to be extracted from an existing PDF to a new PDF.
pdfEdit995 includes 2 command line utilities for combining
PDFs or extracting pages: pdfcombine.exe and pdfextract.exe. They are found in
the ..pdf995\res\utilities folder. Run them to see a message box with
instructions.
3: Bookmark pages
Users may bookmark pages of the last document printed with pdf995. Note: The PDF
must not be open in the Viewer when adding bookmarks. Bookmarks may be arranged
hierarchically. The bookmark list may be saved for future use with other PDF's.
In addition, it is possible to automatically add bookmarks specified in the list
to all PDF's created with Pdf995 by adding the following to the [Parameters]
section of pdf995.ini:
ProcessPS=c:\pdf995\res\utilities\pdfedit995.exe InsertBookMarks
The auto-insertion process will refer to c:\pdf995\res\utilities\bookmarks.xml for the bookmark list. When this option is
selected, the color and style of the bookmarks may optionally be adjusted by
adding entries in the 4th and 5th positions of the Bookmark entries:
<BOOKMARK
Page="0001"
Text="1"
Children="0"
C="[1 0 0]"
F="2"
/>
When using batch mode to convert Word documents or the Pdf995
Word toolbar, Word bookmarks will automatically converted to PDF bookmarks.
4: Links
Users may automatically create links for text starting with
"www." or "http://". Alternatively, users may specify text
for which they would like a specified link created.
If you are generating PDF files
from Word 2000 or later, you can use the Word toolbar add-in accessed from the
Batch tab. It automatically ports links, bookmarks and the table of
contents (links to bookmarks) to the PDF. Links to URLs and bookmarks will
appear as internal links in the PDF. Bookmarks will appear as PDF bookmarks. The
page size specified for the pdf995 printer must match the page size of the Word
document in order for the Toolbar to insert links at the proper location in the
PDF. You can set Word's default page size for pdf995 by first printing from Word
to pdf995 without the toolbar and adjusting the page size in the pdf995 printer
dialog. You can also adjust the system wide default page size for pdf995 in
Control Panel-Printers-Pdf995-Properties.
5: Autoname provides 3 options
a. Name and specify location of the PDF document using the "Save As" dialog (default).
b. Automatically name the document based on the originating document and save it in the pdf995\output
folder.
c. Save all PDF documents to the same filename. When this is selected the user is prompted to specify a PDF
filename. This can be helpful when pdf995 is incorporated into automated workflow
systems.
The Options button allows modification of the output folder used in b. It also
supports configuring the Save As dialog when a. is selected: Open the Save As
Dialog to a fixed directory, the user's My Documents folder, or the last folder
to which a PDF was saved.
6: Text
Users may extract the complete text or a statistically generated summary
of the last document printed with pdf995. Note: PdfEdit995 can be used to
extract text or summarize existing PDF documents because it is possible to print
to pdf995 from a PDF viewer.
The pdfEdit995 HTML Module allows users to convert PDF files to
HTML files complete with images or Word DOC files without images. The pdfEdit995 HTML Module is free and may be downloaded from pdfEdit995.
7: Rotate
In addition to Portrait, Landscape and Rotated Landscape options found in Pdf995
Printer Properties, PdfEdit995 offers combine options:
a. Rotate as necessary (default) - pdf995 attempts to rotate on a page-by-page
basis. This is particularly useful when printing PowerPoint presentations and Excel charts.
b. No rotation - pdf995 will not rotate pages. Note: many
applications such as PDF viewers can rotate pages before sending them to
printers such as pdf995.
c. Rotate all pages - pdf995 will rotate the page orientation
of all pages by 90 degrees.
Rotate Pages Of Last PDF Created
- A range of pages in the last PDF created with Pdf995 may be rotated
using the "Rotate Pages Of Last PDF Created" tool. This may be also be
invoked from the command line by calling
..\pdf995\res\utilities\pdfedit995.exe
rotatepages
You can print an existing
PDF to pdf995 in order to make it the last PDF created with Pdf995.
You can also rotate existing PDFs as follows:
1. In pdfEdit995 select no rotation.
2. Open the PDF in the free Acrobat. Select File-Print-Pdf995-Properties-Rotated Landscape. If necessary specify a page size under Advanced. Do not select Auto-rotate and center pages in the Acrobat printer dialog. Note: You may need to select Shrink Oversized Pages to Paper Size. Print.
8: Stamp
This feature places a stamp on every page
of the last document printed with pdf995. Font, color, outline mode, text size, orientation,
page range and text
location may be specified. Windows 2000 and later supports foreground stamping
and auto-stamping of all PDF files created with Pdf995. This feature may be used
with OmniFormat and pdfEdit995 Batch mode.
The following entries may be used as part or all of the text.
This will facilitate auto-stamping and coding of PDF files created with Pdf995.
#Date# - complete date
#m# - month of year
#d# - day of month
#y# - year
#H# - hour
#M# - minute
#S# - second
#pp# - page number
#File# - file name
#Author# - author name specified in pdf995.ini in the [Parameters] section under Stamp Author.
#Number# - automatically incremented number specified in pdf995.ini in the [Parameters] section under Stamp Number.
#Misc# - string specified in pdf995.ini in the [Parameters] section under Stamp Misc.
#lf# - inserts a line feed (not available on Windows 95, 98 or ME).
The number of digits in the #Number# and #pp# fields
may specified (4 digits in the example) by adding the following entries to
..pdf995\res\pdf995.in in the [Parameters] section:
Number of Digits for Stamp Numbers=4
Number of Digits for Stamp Pages=4
If the PDF contains a background, it may be necessary to
select the pdf995-properties-paper tab and change the paper type to transparency
before creating the PDF. The stamp may
not be visible on documents that are rotated.
9: Image
Extraction: Users may convert each page of the last document printed to JPEG,
JPEG (grey), PCX (24bit), PNG (256), TIF (12nc), TIF (24nc) or BMP (256). Users
may specify resolution between 1 and 1200 pixels per inch. Lower resolution JPEG
images are suitable for use as thumbnails.
PDF Image Resolution: Users may specify the image resolution
for PDF files created by pdf995. The default is High. Low and medium settings
can reduce PDF file size.
The Pdf995 output color space may be specified. Choices are
RGB (default) and CMYK.
10: Web View
Optimize PDF documents if you plan to post them on web servers that support bit
streaming. This may increase PDF file size.
Compress Existing PDF - This tool
will apply compression to reduce file size of a PDF. The new PDF may not be
viewable in older PDF viewers.
Use Binary Encoding - Leave this
checked to create smaller PDF files. Uncheck this if ASCII encoded files are
necessary for attaching PDFs to older email clients.
11: Fonts
The preferred and default setting for pdf995 uses font substitution. However,
you may also embed fonts with pdf995. The Fonts dialog details the steps
involved.
PDF Level 1.3 - This is the default setting and generates accurate but larger
PDF files. When unchecked, Pdf995 will use font substitution to generate smaller
PDF files.
12: Stationery
Users may create letterhead, an embossing, or backgrounds for PDF
documents. For best results, the PDF stationery should be produced by
creating line art (fonts should be converted to line art as well) in a
product such as Corel Draw or Adobe Illustrator. The line art should be printed
using pdf995. In pdfEdit995 clicking "Create stationery from last document
printed" will create the stationery. Once made, the stationery may be
sub-imposed on the last document printed in pdf995 by clicking "Impose
stationery on last document printed." The stationery may
not be visible on documents that are rotated, contain backgrounds or have
non-standard formats.
PdfEdit995 supports storage
of multiple stationery files. PdfEdit995 saves stationery as ..\pdf995\stationery.eps.
The file may be renamed in the ..\pdf995\ folder provided it retains its eps
extension. On the next startup, PdfEdit995 will allow the user to chose the
stationery to impose.
13: Batch
Users may queue Microsoft Office and PDF documents for automated printing to the DEFAULT
printer. If PDF output is desired, set pdf995 to the default printer. If a
single document is desired, check Combine in pdfEdit995 before printing.
Requires appropriate Microsoft Office products.
Check "Add Pdf995 buttons to
Microsoft Word Toolbar" to quickly invoke Pdf995 from Microsoft Word. Note: The add-in has
been signed by Pdf995. Complete the install by running Word without opening
a document. The checkbox "Open Toolbar Save As to same folder as Word
file" is effective if default Autoname options (Use the Save As and open
the Save as to the last folder to which a PDF was saved.) are specified.
Both batch mode processing and printing from the toolbar will
automatically import links and the table of contents from Word documents. Links in tables will not be
imported.
The list of files to be processed is stored in ..pdf995\res\utilities\batch.txt.
It may be manually edited. Note: OmniFormat
is a utility from Sofware995 designed primarily for batch PDF creation and file
format conversion.
14: Comment

Mode=0 to the [Parameters] section of ..\Documents and
Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Pdf995\res\pdf995.ini. If Pdf995 is
configured to display the Save As dialog (default), it is recommended that the
Options for this mode are configured to open the dialog to users' My Documents
folders. The first time a user prints when in user mode, the global pdf995.ini file will be copied to
their ..\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Pdf995\res\pdf995.ini if
the file does not exist.
20: PrintPDF
This utility (PrintPDF.exe) will print a PDF to a local or network printer. It
may be called from the command line, batch files or programmatically. Pass the
PDF full path to print to the default printer. Alternatively, pass the PDF full path in quotes,
a space and the printer name in quotes, to specify a printer.
21: Burst PDF documents
This utility (BurstPDF.exe) will break a PDF into several smaller PDFs of n
pages. Paths must be in quotes. The "##" will be replaced by the
document number. The final number specifies the pages per new PDF.
